THESE WORDS ARE...

Who is Hermana Africa:

Hermana Africa is Sister to Civilization
Embassador of the Diaspora
Dignitary to the Descendants
Former of Questions
Nomadic Hunter and Gatherer
Teller of Stories

Raised of contradiction:

Raised a lion by a lion tamer

Learned to hunt from a farmer who tilled with
the butt of a rifle
I'm rife
with contradictions...

I didn't know until I learned to grow revolvers not perennials
Tulips in tubes, like bullets of lipstick
trick is...to only mark red

began to see colors only as waxed&trained
see freedom hung&framed
seen love as bastard.shame
been buried&raped
drowned&doped
processed&refined of all hope

I found:

there is no reality to regain only the ability
to see beyond it

looking for:

--truth
--knowledge of self
--home

these things scattered but indivisible and whole in each pedazo
collecting raindrops to bring back to the clouds
dew to bring back to the Nile

seeking:

--to teach
--to be taught
--to be wise, not to know all

What am I doing;
Tracing my trail back home...
Exploring the continent of me:
divided into paradoxical tribes, colonized, yearning to be unified.

Connecting with those brothers&sisters around the diaspora:
sharing stories of lost territory
the stress of wars we never fought
and the wars we continue fighting
lands we never tilled ourselves

a journey not physical but of proximity
each land has a story that the terrain tells
each language a trick the tongue

Learning to trust universal energy:
letting doors open. to you.
rot off their hinges if they must. feel your
vibrations and shake themselves out of frames
they will honor your will,
"what is it that you were born for my child?"
"Oh, soul, what is it that becomes of you?"

learning by:
ask&answer
try&fail
challenge&face
refinding.rebinding.rerememberig.
retelling what we've heard a thousand times

only in truth do we find rest
only in honesty do we find ourselves
